North Wales Open Art exhibition 2013

Clwyd Theatr Cymru, 22 June - 30 August
Two paintings entered and accepted this year. The painting below is of the area between Nercwys and Eryrys near Mold, North Wales and involved four visits over two days before the real work began. It is a picture about light and the slow migration from one season to the next. In March the sun is still quite low in the sky, producing long shadows. Clouds racing across the sky would still threaten sleet with ribbons of light dancing over a landscape waking up after a cold winter. The sun on the grass beyond the gate and the contrast with the shadows and the gate add interest to the forground. I particularly liked the detail of the thin shadow of the gate on the snow and the farmer's twine.
